The strategy of war has always been replicated in some form of entertainment. Even the kings of old would entertain themselves with games of war. Like chess and backgammon all were focuses on strategy for war.
Eventually the strategy game has evolved over time into what we have now. Tabletops, board, pc and console strategy games all came from there predecessors chess and backgammon.
But in these times the Kings of old weren't merely entertaining themselves they were staying sharp for the next big or small war to come there way. Today it is very much different then it was in the days of old.
Today's games aren't just for keeping the mind sharp they can be used for building new found relations across the world and uniting mankind under entertainment. So now what was used for defense and conquering is now used for uniting and connecting with others world wide.
